It's hard to think about it.

I'm glad I heard this. I just had to reaffirm what I already knew for a long time. And, that is that I absolutely de-test Pop Music. I can't fathom the reality that people actually listen to this kinda stuff for enjoyment. It's a bloody stinkfest, this. All of the choruses sound exactly the same. Not only for this band, but for pretty much everything that qualifies as Pop at present. I'm gunna go now and break off the FM dials on all of my radios.

Someone actually directed me to this band, thinking that I would like them. I don't know what this person saw in my tastes that would lead them to this conclusion. Someone told me that these guys are a progressive rock band. dahaaa. lol. Imagine dat. Wouldn't actually be a bad idea for a new genre though, if someone could figure out how to pull it off. They've already beat the hell out of the 'Pop-Punk' thing. How long will it be before we get 'Pop-Prog'? lol. I think I'll leave Earth on that day.

This isn't the first time I heard them. Someone gave me an advance copy of their first album. Like, a month or so before they blew up. And, I remember throwing it out of my car window on the highway. lol. I guess I'm just not a fan of anything being mixed with Pop.

yeah, coheed's always been extremely poppy. they've actually gotten less and less poppy with each album. have you listened to in keeping secrets of silent earth: 3? it's their best imo and it has some heavier stuff on it.

No, I've just heard the debut and then this one. I was about to say that The Mars Volta are the only Pop-Prog band that I dig. But, to refer to anything that TMV does as Pop would be ridiculous. They've just received mainstream acceptance, that's all....but they haven't steered anywhere near Pop. No matter how convoluted and seemingly erratic their music appears to be on initial exposure, I've found that most to all of it proves to be very articulate upon repeat exposure. And, by 'repeat' I mean lots and lots of repeating. The most recent one is much more accessible, but look at the second and third release. When you first hear those tracks they sound like an unbelievable mess. But, the more you listen to it you hear the method in the madness. I think their brilliant and I'm glad that at least one modern Prog band broke into the mainstream.

Well, the band evolved out of 'At The Drive-In', and they were somewhat of a Punk-Pop band, no? I think that's why TMV has achieved what they have. The music, while being miles away from anything Pop-Punk, still has a hint of that sound at the core. And, that's recognizable to people this decade. So, instead of Pop-Punk, they are now a full-pledged Prog band, with a hint of a Pop sound. I don't think that a Pop Culture PROG band could have evolved out of a straightforward Prog outfit. No matter how catchy the stuff was, I don't think it would have flown. The fact that TMV has a recognizable sound at their core is why a lot of folks embraced them, or at least gave them a chance. This Message Edited On 07.02.08This Message Edited On 07.02.08

i dont know what all the fuss is about. i found this album to be just about on par with everything else they have put out. granted, they could record an album of them sneezing and i would think it deserves to at the top of the charts, but the guitarwork in every song is crazy good, claudio's voice has continued to progress and gives me chills in mother superior, NWFT, and on the brink, I think feathers is one of the best 'poppy' songs they have ever released, and the riffs in gravemakers and such definitely satisfied me.

F*ck this album. By far Coheed's weakest effort, and they're getting progressively worse with each one.

I dunno about it. It's catchy and all, but it sounds like a whole album of Blood Red Summer/Favor House Atlantic. Claudio's vocals have lost a lot of their appeal IMO, and really, way to underuse Pennie's writing/technical skills dudes. His beats are just as dumb simple as Eppard's.

Well the fact that pennie didn't write any of the stuff and the guy from foo fighters recorded it might have something to do with that...

No World For Tomorrow is one of their best songs and The End Complete Saga is their best one imo of course...Feathers and The Running Free are two of their most poptacular songs...i forgot how much i like this album...and how much is quite a lot...

He was under contract and couldn't physically play them, so he composed/wrote the drumbeats and had Hawkins play them. Fact.

But don't you think Pennie being there to physically play the songs would change a lot? If he was there to record he would probably constantly change a lot and go ape shit. This Message Edited On 07.15.08
