Good review, the album has it's moments but is ridiculously overrated.

Hmmm; I disagree. I think the first two songs are the worst and then the music gets better and better until the end of the final track. Steven Wilson most noticably leaves his marks on "bleak" and "dirge for november". Even so, I find it less gripping than "My arms, your hearse" and "still life" simply because this album is less diverse and there is a lot more repetition going on in the songs on blackwater park. I'd give it 3/5 by Opeth's standards, while still life is worth a 5/5.

Jokes? The Leper Affinity, Bleak and Title Track are the best on the album

The progression of bleak is poor, in my opinion, because it just drifts off into some weedy melodic sections, after a powerful introduction that is worth 5 stars in itself. I think bleak is too inconsistent but it used to be my favourite song because the vocals used to captivate me but now I just hear them as being weedy. The live version nearly does the song justice because I believe it could be better with more improvisation over the simple bits that come later on. The song reaches it's climax early on, then it just fades and leaves you with the remainder, with a heavy but not so heavy part at the end, which isn't a desirable build-up for me.
The leper affinity is too repetitive for me but it is ok.

no seriously. anyone who says that the leper affinity is repetitive is retarded.
do you know how many time changes are in that song?
are you even listening?

Again, why do you have to speak in such a manner? Right, ok - that is a valid argument.
Am I listening? Well, I don't know how quickly you want me to reply but now you know I am listening.
Right - so you think that because there are lots of time changes, that stops certain riffs from repeating themselves over and over again?
Let me put this in a different way for you...
Fast - slow - fast - faster - slow [repeat X 3] Do you understand?
listen to the song at 3.13 - 4.00 My opinion is that the repetition there is not so interesting and that is a fair example.

When I first got this album, Bleak was my least favorite song. It bored me to tears. After a while, and I mean a long time, I really grew to appreciate it. Sure, we can say it's repetitive and stretched out, but I've learned to really love it. And the clean singing passages with those guitar riffs... damn I love it.

Well, to be honest, I keep on changing my mind - I must be fickle, which shows it is just a matter of opinion. I know there is quite a lot to like about the leper affinity and maybe on certain days I am ready for the heavy repetition. Besides, metal is about repetition of riffs but for whatever reason, I'm not always in the mood for it when it comes to blackwater park, whereas I adore the introduction to the Moor. Funny huh?

Yes, I think I can explain a bit better now: The buildups in some of the songs on Blackwater park are great and there is a nice level of atmosphere, but the riffs themselves are not so varied and at times, a bit too repetitive, though sometimes I am in the mood for the repetition of riffs that otherwise wouldn't appeal to me so much.

the only repetitive part on this album is the slow section in the title track, and even that isn't that bad tbh
