and no its fine i mean i like the south but culturally my area is silly. im definitely not saying everyone has to be a marxist who smokes weed to mid-80s black flag records, but i feel like "weird" shit is more or less completely ignored
not to say i havent had some cool ass fuckin teachers or even some "square" ones who were still flatout geniuses. but you know that feeling when you realize your clerk at the grocery store is inept, or you see someone fucking up the register at mcdonalds and feel bad for them? ive had that happen way too much with teachers and its way worse, and i feel like the standards should be a little higher. i understand a lot of folks go in wide-eyed and ready to change the world and get jaded after the school board shits on them or something, but still - the best teacher i ever had told us he hated it and was ready to retire, and he still tried harder than anyone and pushed us to actually use our goddamn heads

I had a short story prof this year who was insanely smart by all accounts. Phd by 30 making bank. Every fucking lecture this guy spoke about how teaching-especially english- will be obsolete in 10 years time. It was so bad man, so bad. The dude did not teach a lick and we had a DANK curriculum lined up. Didnt get to any of it. Guy was just there to collect a check. Wrote some of my worst papers and got a's. Those type of profs take that spark we younger learners have, out of our hungry souls. Terrible.
