My favorite Neurosis album… listen to it paired with "Grace", and your perspective on life will never be the same.

why does Albini produce so much post-metal/post-rock? seems to me that his style would be singularly
unsuited to genres which rely so much on changes in dynamics

dude, Albini is all about the dynamics!

Godspeed, Labradford, Neurosis,Mogwai, Low, Don Caballero...

he's worked with others too, but I think the post-whatev field kinda is his expertise

he's all about VERY LOUD or very soft, with not much in between, whereas i thought this kind of music relies on more subtle builds and shifts

His style is just very big and open, and a lot of bands like the fact that he uses analog. This record, for example, is very similar in style to it's predecessor. But, to me, it suffers because it lacks the claustrophobic sound of TSIB. When they started simplifying their music, Albini's sound complemented it perfectly.

Interesting take Dominion..I always felt that a claustrophobic sound was anything but simple

The "mid-period" stuff wasn't simple. I was talking about their last 2 records. They're much more straightforward (for lack of a better term) and Albini's sound works well with that.

i find this to be their most 'claustrophobic' of all

Interesting. To me, the records they did with Billy Anderson had a much more claustrophic sound than anything they're done with Albini.

^ agreed. I think this is their most claustrophobic sound that B.A. didn't produce.

I find it very interesting that Albini produces for a lot of bands that Anderson had produced for previously (Neurosis, Weedeater, High On Fire and Om, to name a few). There's got to be a connection there.
