Indeed, but sadly, that was their final masterpiece. The Ripper was a very competent replacement for Halford, but the music he sung over was pig shit.

It must have been awful for the Priest fanbase to be given an offering that was so atrocious except in the vocal department after waiting for seven goddamn years.

their last album should have been painkiller, that would be legendary

They sure would have been way better off like that. I kind of liked Angel of Retribution and their new album, but nothing after Painkiller is above 3 stars for me.

this, Painkiller, and Stained Class are my favorite Priest. Sad Wings is great too, but those are the three I find myself listening to as whole albums the most.

i kinda liked nostradamus, angel of retribution was ok and new one is pretty bland
nothing on this level though

Of course not. My top five Priest albums are the middle three 70s ones, Painkiller, and this. Nothing after Painkiller even comes close.

I dont dig Painkiller as much as a lot of people. Prefer about 5 Priest albums to it

It's certainly not for everyone, but it's still a hell of a lot better than a substantial amount of their 80s albums plus anything after it. The vocal performance may not be at the level of Stained Class or Sad Wings, but for a guy in his 40s, Halford sure did a killer performance.

Album cover rules.

this rules harder than I remember. Honestly the only song I don't dig is Eat Me Alive

[2]. The only other 80s Priest album I can say that about would be Vengeance.

SfV is better

I only like this more than Vengeance for consistency, but they only released one album after those two that I consider worthy of being bought. Most of their best albums were released in 1976-1978 anyway, when they were keeping metal from being a laughingstock along with Rainbow while Sabbath was releasing two unimpressive albums back-to-back.

I'm a bit of a fanboy, but there's something worthy of listening to on every Priest album, even if it's only a few songs.

Theres a few decent songs on albums like Ram it Down I guess

Ram it Down suffers from severe inconsistency. I found a few great songs there, but it is not quite good enough for me to own overall.
