FWIW, I don't think any of Brand New's albums are really one time listen records where you can form a real opinion of it. It took me tons of listens to even get into Deja beyond a couple songs.

kinda just one of those things where like, even if that's true, do i really want to let myself fall in love with an album so personal after knowing what the writer and singer's done to people? do i really want to concede defeat to a predator?
less importantly, do i really want to concede defeat to the elitist "patricians" that used to bash all emo music and hurl slurs in my direction because I liked stuff they didn't?

Man I used to love this band so much but they just don't hit much for me anymore.

i think i'd even put the first straylight run album ahead, existentialism on prom night is a classic

im a tbs weirdo and think the sapone produced 2010s stuff is their best, been reppin tidal wave since the day it came out and its only aged like a fine wine since. louder now prob rounds out my top 3
that said i probably like science fiction more than any tbs album and self titled less than your favorite weapon but

oh the 2010s work isn't bad by any means i especially remembered enjoying happiness is, but yeah the first 3 is absolute peak to me, louder now is my 1, tell all your friends 2 and where you want to be 3, then happiness is 4

liking TBS more than Brand New is like liking Coldplay more than Radiohead. or Puddle of Mudd more than Alice in Chains. I just cannot fathom the credibility gulf between the one band that originated from this scene that showed grandiose artistic ambition versus their generic peer that just made commercial slop.

the extent to which this band was artistically ambitious is overblown anyway and their first two albums before they has those ambitions are more or less useless so sometimes its just the tunes that matter

Brand New are Puddle of Crud

Coldplay's first two albums I can sorta put up there, but Muse's first four all contend with Radiohead's best IMO
Puddle of Mudd has maybe 1 song that is up there with AIC but it's up there with Facelift era not Dirt or S/T
Brand New was cool the few times I listened prior to 2017 but i really can't imagine myself letting this in beyond vaguely acknowledging it's a cool album after the aftermath of what happened with jesse, whereas something like Louder Now is hooks for days

possibly? i mean i'd still hate the elitist way people act when propping this up against other albums of its style

i mean i really like taking back sunday but pretending they have the same artistic merit as something like this is kinda wild. this is absolutely unique from indie/emo at the time in this style.
