I could see the argument either way re: heaviness, but this certainly has some of their heaviest moments in recent history even if the entire thing doesn't lay listeners to waste. What I covered in my closing paragraph best summarizes how I feel about it; it's an emotional heaviness and sense of purpose more than sheer decibel levels.

@Jay it happens with most Deftones albums man, it's hard to describe but I think I got myself hyped to hear the best thing ever so I wasn't in the right mindset during the first couple of spins.
Once I just started to let go it starting clicking very quickly.

Def agreed on the production, I'd argue this has the best production in the band's discog. Very balanced, neither the bass or Frank's synth are too drowned out, and Abe's drums sound huge

With Sowing; heaviness is relative to the band, imo. For Deftones this is on par with the s/t as far as tone and riffage

This isn't better produced than WP or ATF but it's still great. Abe's drums here are great but they are just slightly buried in the mix. That signature snare that TD used to get out of him is missing here I must say. Still very good production though.
