My rating system is as absolute as I can make it. I don't rate something badly because it is a 'bad' record in the certain artist's discography. If it is worse than the artist's other releases, it may still be better than any release by some other artist. Furthermore, my scale is for all music I know there is, not for the music I voluntarily listen to. I have only a few ratings below 2.0, but death metal, for instance, might face difficulties to reach even 1.0. Most of the records I really know vary from decent (3.0) to very good (4.0). (Mind you, the exact middle of the 0.5–5.0 scale is 2.75, not 2.5.)

Alright S.L.A.M., it's time for us to start compiling our best of lists for 2014! We're going to structuring this a little bit differently than our band of the weeks in hopes of giving you all the time to properly listen to everything that gets nominated before you vote. I decided that we're going to kick this off with Alternative Metal/Nu Metal. Now this is a category I'm not too involved with but we've had some strong releases this year from bands like Slipknot and Of Mice & Men.
