I mean it’s got a 3.9 avg and everyone everywhere else pretty much unanimously loved it. Common consensus around here seems to be that it could’ve been worse, but going by their track record, it could’ve been better.
I feel like it’s just Converge doing Converge, which you can’t fault them for, they’ve been going at it for almost 30 years.

My biggest gripe with this is that it times it feels a bit uninspired compared to what they're capable of. Like, at certain spots in some of the songs, where with Converge at their best you'd expect something interesting or creative to happen, instead nothing happens.
It's still a great record though.

I find some of this to be alarmingly milquetoast for Converge, it lacks chaos, heaviness and creativity. I don't mind them making something more accessible, but this just doesn't hold-up at all well against their previous material. Am I comparing to their previous albums? Hell yeah, I think that's very difficult to avoid, in fact reviewers are often encouraged to evaluate new material like that.
