What a terribly worded statement. They need to be absolutely clear if he is out of the band or not

I always thought I was a good judge of character who could read people like books until I found out a guy I'd been close friend with for years was a possessive abuser who would was physically assaulting and trying to alienate his girlfriend from her friends and family (I ended up confronting him about it after she came to me distraught and threatened to beat the shit out of him if he ever tried to talk to her again and obviously we never spoke again either). I can honestly say he never showed any signs of being creepy or off around women that I picked up on so I think it's possible that other band members were blind to the degeneracy going on before their noses, I hope so anyway

Also, even though I know of at least one case where someone's life was temporarily capsized by false rape allegations, I still think the just thing is to always take the accuser/victim's claims as prima facie true until there's serious evidence to prove otherwise

Yeah whenever a group phrases it as “stepping away” it means the door is open for a return. Whether it is a short term deal or long term thing is up in the air. Tough decision to make when the band is at peak popularity with Tilian, but they must understand that bringing him back would have negative consequences for their reputation.

Might as well put the band on hold post release to figure it out. No need to rush into touring amidst all of this.

yeah this all goes to waste if i hear "tilian got professional help, so he can be our singer again !"

How about As I lay Dying re-recruiting a man who tried to have his ex wife killed because he was a chang- their popularity was slipping

i don't wanna run to fault them for the ambiguity of the statement. we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there in terms of if they actually continue with him.

i imagine after touring is done they really will be taking a long time away from this. no matter how you look at it, this is a lot for a group to be dealing with

i get that they are in a precarious situation but let's be honest; tilian sexually assaulted two women. there should not be a window open for him to climb back through.

Exactly. It's not hard to say "Effective immediately, Tillian will no longer be a part of Dance Gavin Dance." They've showed enough resilience to survive being a band through this before. There's a discussion to be had about making sure everyone, especially women, feel safe at music shows in general but there's especially a stink in "scene" bands. While this genere's popularity has waned over the years, these guys are still a strong pillar and need to condemn this shit full stop. They can still support his path to recovery and getting better as a person and as a friend, but his career needs to be over.

What a terrible, terrible year for this band. Can't imagine what the rest of the guys are feeling now considering they're all still coping with the death of Tim. This band has been through hell and back time and time again and this might be their breaking point. Time will tell.

Yeah, they're definitely going on hiatus after the new album. Or they could just bring Kurt back and give us Happiness 2.0 that would be even cooler.

There could be pressure from the label or PR or whatever to word the statement in such a way

I'm not sure how I'm interpreting the band's statement - it leaves the door too open for Tilian to return, which I'd hate. I can see them bringing him back in 6 months after things kind of blow over and they're not in the spotlight anymore.

Are there examples of dude's fucking up this bad, getting kicked out of the band, and then coming back later down the line?

'Are there examples of dude's fucking up this bad, getting kicked out of the band, and then coming back later down the line?'

Closest thing I can think of is Tyler Carter (Issues) and Brent Walsh (I the Mighty) who both took a 'social media break' after releasing a statement regarding their allegations, claiming to go into therapy for it and whatnot, then quietly sneaking back, still making music/having a platform as well as fans.

"Tim Lambesis"

Oh fuck

Although technically it's his band and he only ever kicked out himself
