The one-two-three punch of Funeral, Bastard and Death of Music is GOAT though.

Last one is underrated. I love the atmosphere and compostions of this whole thing. Gorgeous. Monstrous.

The reason you know Devin is the master of a chorus is when you know the phrasing phonetically without listening for a couple years:

Raaaaaaaaiiiiiiiin falling down

Rayuhay haaaain falling dowun

Ocean Machine and Terria are the best Dev solo albums and nothing else comes close.

Album is like something you’d hear in a dream or remember hearing. The massive layering and oceanic sound help achieve this.

This (and Terria) are sublime because they adhere to that Coleridgian maxim on the nature of humans: "the horror of falsehood and love of truth." There is a perfect likeness and unlikeness here, a synthesis between the individual (Townsend) and the external nature of his imitation. It's the ultimate "purposiveness without purpose" (here comes Kant). SYL's City is the same. Casualties of Cool, Infinity, Addicted, and Deconstruction all come close to this level of perfection.

And I'll keep my world from falling apart

In the corner of an aching heart

So say you'll come into the city

Come back with me please...
