I wholeheartedly believe that nu-metal has more legitimate goods than deathcore.
But I also believe that we use nu-metal, primarily, to describe the Limp Bizkit / POD / Staind / Adema scene, and intentionally to be derogative. Personally I felt like that scene was better described as Alt-Metal which feels like a much more accurate way of describing someone like Deftones.
Deftones / Apex Theory / Pulse Ultra / Mudvayne all released what I consider to be a very good album, with bands like Boy Hits Car / Nonpoint / Sevendust and so on releasing what could be considered solid work unfairly being lumped in with "Nu-Metal" even today. I'm rambling at this point as I tend to get into one of these conversations every couple months or so, but I'd like to finish with one point that I feel very passionately about:
RATM is not nu-metal. Ironically, I do believe that RATM / Korn / Faith No More did create it, but its not like everyone says that Slade and Cream and the MC5 are metal, even though they laid the foundation for it.

I know it's fucking scary, but in order to move on from a debate that makes morons of us all, we must conclude that this album is unique and doesn't fit in a box.
Making something that fucks the norm is is a subtly mentioned creative ambition here.

The only problem with this album is that it didn't start a violent revolution in USA.
