If the first half of Pt. I and the second half of Pt. II were put together to make one song, I'm pretty sure it would be like top 25 songs EVER

Kodama is a much more refined and enjoyable album on the whole, and the high points are much more numerous than those on here. So much of this album's charm and staying power though, is where it is not as immediate and only reveals itself progressively with repeated listens, with this album having much more depth overall. Both are classics though.

My two favs by Alcest too, still I like Kodama better. Neige is writing some new stuff as well.

It's first this one, then Kodama, Les Voyages, Souvenirs, Shelter, then the Le Secret EP last, for me.

Ecailles > Kodama > Shelter > Souvenirs > Les Voyages > Le Secret

All rule hard though. m/

Bloody Souvenirs is easily one of their best plebs

Better than Kodama

Kodama beats out Souvenirs in every single aspect (production, performances, song-writing without a doubt, etc etc etc), but I get why one would prefer the overall feeling of that one, even though I personally don't.

I usually listen to Souvenirs to fall asleep. I mean this as a compliment

Yea that album is lovely but this is so profoundly moving compare to it. Only Kodama as a whole compares in their discography.

I actually agree with pretty much everything there Rik, I love Kodama but feel and unique atmosphere are why these first two almost always come out on top for me, and the only things I felt Kodama lacked somewhat. I really think Souvenirs is by far the most organic and accurate sonic realisation of Neige's 'dream world' that he always harks on about, I mean that album literally sounds like it was made by elves

Also anyone know anything about any new Alcest? They tend to release an album every two years so I'm hopeful, they're pretty consistent so am intrigued

Woah pretty cool; Alcest, Deftones, MBV etc. made me wonder why I'd never heard of this festival before but it seems it's dictated by a different artist each year who chooses the acts, leading to a completely unique line up - cool concept. This year its the great Robert Smith so no surprise loads of dreamy acts right up my alley in there. I'm close to London but think I'm away for half of it, will possibly see if I can pop along for just a couple days
