Yeah, I get that, the highlights to me are the softer parts in Selkies, Backwards Marathon, I think they got better at the heavier stuff in later albums

I agree. Backwards Marathon has always been the highlight for me. I thought this album was a masterpiece until Colors, which I've always felt improved on this in literally every way.
