I think so too. Orchid and this are kind of special albums, not only in their discography. I can't think of any albums with this type of foresty, pagan and medieval atmosphere as these. That's what they have over the other albums and make them more than worth returning to.

"medieval" yeah absolutely! Gothic medieval maiden.

Yeah. This and Orchid are simply overflowing with forests and medieval goodness.

atmosphere is nice but the longform compositions and constant playing with harmony and loose counterpoint are what always bring me back to these two

Ghandi, how would you rank Opeth albums then? Shadowmire is just flat-out refusing for some reason, haha.

Morningrise > Orchid > Blackwater Park > Ghost Reveries > Still Life > Deliverance > Pale Communion > Heritage > My Arms, Your Hearse > Sorceress > Watershed > Damnation

That's not THAT controversial, to be honest.

Good. It's just, one wouldn't expect it that far behind when you have their first two albums at the top.

Sums it up perfectly. First two are magical and I love them immensely.

I think Agalloch fits into that as well, along with some other band I can't think of the name of right now but they also have that unique, foresty pagan feel. I'm going to kick myself when I remember at 3Am randomly

I prefer Morningrise, though. It feels more focused than Orchid.

Yeah I get what you mean, although I personally can't stand Agalloch. Plus Orchid and Morningrise feel even more 'natural' to me than Agalloch's albums.

Haha yeah those ratings don't lie, I know I feel very weird about it too. But it just doesn't do anything for me. I think it's the vox mainly, they're very flat to me or something.

I keep trying too, but no success as of yet.

Agalloch have really awkward songwriting so I can understand if someone doesn't like em. Something about them was always a bit off-putting for me even though I love many aspects of their sound.

Yeah exactly. I don't know what it is, there's so many cool elements and the idea of them really seems like it should be right up my alley

I’m perplexed by the lack of outrage shown at Shadowmire’s abomination of an Opeth ranking (am I doing it right?)... seriously though, it’s not pretty.

All the prog picks? I didn't want to be too rude.
