@nomos dude yeah, first they've played it in 4 years apparently. I'm stoked. They also brought perpetual black second, electric red and humiliative in. They took pravus and future breed machine out tho by the looks of it, bit bummed about those

Yeah he's cool, he's in a decent prog band called Distorted Harmony as well.

This setlist is gonna be insane. All bangers.

I did it. It took 15 years, but I saw Meshuggah last night.

What the FUCK. People were not exaggerating. That was indeed, simply, without contest, the best live set I've ever seen in my life. The light show was closer to the raves I go to. It matches the sputtering clockwork insanity of their music perfectly and was so dynamic and vital to seeing them in person.

I'd like to think maybe I just saw them at their peak too? They're starting to age and I can't imagine they can keep up with a setlist like that for many years. So I'm treating that as probably the only time they'll ever come to my city and the only time I'll get the gift of seeing them live. 11/10. Other metal shows are going to pale in comparison until I die. Wow. Wowowowowow. I can't believe it.

Good LORD Mind's Mirrors into In Death - Is Life and In Death - Is Death. PSYCHADELIC.

And the show started with 3-4 minutes of pitch black, nothing, besides an alien, oppressive atmosphere of twinkling synths with this gutteral, tectonic rumbling bass.

You guys. I've never heard bass/low-end like this live before, maybe save for some bass-centric EDM raves. Lung shattering without being blownout or distorted. Crystal clear almost sub-audible being-shaking madness.

I still feel high from that.

I think I'm preaching to the choir here, but if anyone hasn't seen them, DO IT, AND DO IT SOON.

I would pay money. I would go into debt. To fly out somewhere and get a hotel just to see these guys.

You know how too many metal sets these days are just...a lot of distorted noise, clean guitars that are too quiet, and if you're not familiar with the song, you can kind of be scratching your head and trying to nod along? And if you're familiar with the song, your brain kind of fills in the blanks? Nah, none of that here. Best live mix I've ever heard. I guess it helps that I know their catalog so well anyway, but I was never lost, taken out of the moment, or overthinking anything like I usually do at a show. 100% immersion.

Whitechapel was good, but they suffered from Opening Band's Mix Syndrome, so it sounded samey to someone who isn't intimately familiar with their music.

In Flames surprised me. Still a whole lot of talent and energy after all these years. Hearing Cloud Connected and Take This Life was a full-circle moment for me. The whole show was actually, since Sputnik helped kickstart my heavy music journey, and that began with...all 3 of these bands in 2007-2008 on Early Sputnik.

Seconded that Meshuggah is the best live show I've ever been to. Saw them in Maryland last year and it was more than I had hoped. You're bang on with the Catch 33 suite being a highlight, the crescendo into In Death - Is Life is *chefs kiss* (that riff lives in my head rent free)

I lost it when Rational Gaze hit.

Saw em last night, really good show. It's incredible how good Jens still sounds. Most of their albums really don't do justice to how massive their sound is live either. And yeah, Minds Mirrors - In Life - In Death was the highlight of the show for me, even with them pulling out Bleed towards the end. The way the riffs in In Death keep piling on is fucking orgasmic

Yeah Catch 33 is one of their best albums for sure.

In other news, Shug was my most listened to artist of ‘23 🔥 😎

Yooooo same, and I didn't even think they would be in my top 5 most listened to.

Fuck ya Christbait and MeatSalad. That setlist was INSANE.

It's been 4 and a half days and Rational Gaze has not left my head.

I feel like I am "complete" as a Meshuggah listener now. It feels like listening to their music on record/streaming was only one half of the puzzle, and now I know, after all these years, what they really sound like. The live show is where it's at -- their "true" sound and how it's meant to be experienced.

Now...I'm just sad I'll probably never see them again because if it took them 30 years to hit my city, they probably won't be back anytime soon.

Honestly same. They’re even my most listened band this year but it feels like I still didn’t get it until I saw them live.

I kept seeing that live album but ignored it, I'll give it a shot Spec!

Verdr, Meshuggah may have inadvertently spawned a lot of imitation but sadly nobody quite does it the same as these very very good shuggah boys.

The only bands I find that come close to the level of intensity and density, without resorting to popular prog tropes or breaks for clean singing and gentle melodies, are Vildhjarta and Car Bomb.

Just sww their ahow live and holy fuck the songs from this are so much better than the weak sauce muddy production here would leave you to believe. Broken Cog is such an awesome opening the way they do it.

Two highlights for me where Perpetual Black Second and especially Humiliative. Humiliative gave me the stank face the whole time. I miss old Meshuggah man, I miss that energy and variety.
