@Jacquibim

OK, I have to apologize for being very wrong. I downloaded a ripped Shrines vinyl last night to listen, and it was literally like listening to a completely different album. I'm not sure what the actual dynamic range is, but it sure isn't the compressed-to-hell mess that the digital album was. No way I can ever go back to digital release after hearing that. Just so sad they're releasing better masters for an inferior medium!

The drums are much less 'central' than in Shrines.

All in all, a more homogeneous listening experience.

Nevertheless I like Shrines better.

I very much disagree this is more homogeneous than Shrines or the rest of their dicog. If anything, because of the introduction of more melody/harmony, I actually think it has a variety their other albums lack. I keep going back and forth between this and Shrines as my #2 behind EIF. I could easily see this ending up as #1, actually, but I'll have to live with it for a while as I've done with their other albums.

I think I bought GTA: Vice City and Brand New's 'Deja Entendu' on the same day and, for a while, didn't indulge in one without the other. Now, weird as it is, I always associate those two things even though they have almost nothing in common other than peak relevance in '02 and '03.

@Elliotsmeuth: funnily enough I jammed this whilst playing Skyrim this morning, I’m definitely a muted game whilst listening to music kind of guy, where possible. The key is finding games that I like, but that I can play close enough to an ‘auto-pilot’ level of commitment, so I can still concentrate on the music. Works well for me.

Yeah it’s modded. But yeah Skyrim isn’t exactly an intensive thinkers kind of game, especially when you’ve logged 400+ hours total over the years.

Of course. I like the music, played with the in-game music on during my initial stint with the game... but these days the chance to listen to whatever I like is definitely preferable.
