New song is solid, but I think it's hilarious that people have been in a such a tizzy about the growls, considering the song is so stylistically similar to their last few albums. I guess the only thing, LITERALLY the only thing that turned people off about Heritage - ICV was the lack of growls. Not the stylistic shift from their early work or anything like that, just the growls. Good to know!



Seriously, one of the comments on Youtube said something along the lines of, "this brings me back to the Blackwater Park days". Fucking what? lol

It def has a dark vibe similar to this with growls and I think thats a big part of the appeal for me. BWP vibes heavy too as I've said and BWP is like my 7th fav Opeth lol.

After Watershed this band moved from the 'music that slays my soul' category to the 'technically impressive but does little to nothing for me'. It's nostalgic to me that people can still get this hyped about them. I remember how fucking hyped I was when Ghost Reveries was rolling out (even though we got that god-awful Grand Conjuration video)

I agree that it kinda doesn't make sense that suddenly people are over the moon with the growls when the music is still real far off from their older stuff. If that's how the whole album is then incoming 2.0 or 2.5. This kind of sound is real off-putting to me.

@artiswar: Sadly, that video was my first exposure to Opeth as a teenager. I thought it was cool when I was in middle school, but looking back in retrospect... yeah, complete cringe 😂😂😂

I'm not gonna lie, hearing the growls again makes me really happy. Feels like a nice mix of old and new Opeth. Slightly heavier In Cauda Venenum with growls. I'm excited to hear the full version of the track.

yeah, I definitely got the sense that he completely lost interest in metal and growls, never expected him to go back whatsoever. Song still kind of sucks but it's a nice surprise I guess
