I honestly don't know that i've given TWFM enough listens for it to grow on me like that. I'd say it did grow on me though, but there are songs on there that I just outright dislike (Heavenfaced) or that just don't really make an impression (Slipped) and I can't say that about Alligator, Boxer, or HV

TWFM is so much more subdued. It gradually gets under your skin and then you can't get it out.

I will say I think Sea of Love and This is The Last Time are 2 of their absolute best songs

Yeah exactly, and unlike all their other records it actually gives the impression of being completely effortless.

Going to listen to it right now to see if I feel differently after giving it time, always cool when I can have an excuse for listening to more National. One of my favorite bands ever but it's hard to listen frequently cuz so dreary

I find TWFM is best listened to in fragments rather than all at once.

Nah, despite their dreariness I can always go for some National

So I did like TWFM more this time, but i'm still not sure it's a classic like the previous 3. Also I'd have to say it's easily their most depressing album imo

Lies, their past 4 records are all perfect in my book.

i have that feeling with pretty much everything they made since alligator. i always need a few listens before it grows on me. but after that i just can't stop listening

They're all growers, however TWFM is so much more ethereal

TWFM does have a different feeling to it then the other 3 imo, can't quite put my finger on it. Still think This Is The Last Time, Graceless, and Sea of Love are much better than the rest tho, gonna spend some more time with it

@Ocean: Lol. I don't think I'd actually seen Crysis' before but at least mine's burrito makes it distinct. What can I say, cats and space make a great combination.
