cure has made me realize my biggest problem with this i think

i get they wanted to experiment w lower tunings and choruses and all that but they hurt themselves by using such a minimal amount of key signatures on this album. this record has a chromatic range of goddamn two whole steps, and if not for the closing duo would only be 1 lmao. it really homogenizes these tracks outside of emberglow (db minor), elysium (d minor), and false meriddy/immolation (e minor), and again two of those are the goddamn closing duo lmao. while i dont like greyview more than this, greyview is better about that than this album is

i guess thats why abby p hits the hardest of the rest for me because its the very first one you hear

Yes I always felt like once you get past some of the early heavy features, it definitely becomes homogenous. I think that’s why I don’t vibe with the second half nearly as much

So many bands use the 1 same tuning for all their albums. There's more to song variety then just different tunings.

but invent animate are better than those bands!

lol standards and such. granted everchanger has a limited tonal vocabulary but also doesn't cram a chorus into every song so the intentionality makes it not matter like at all on that record. and its more than j the tuning if every song has the same scales as a result. i dont think its such that itd lower the 4.5 but itd be cool seeing them switch things up with the next album

this was my fav core album of last year tho yea, and only beaten out by tesseract re: djunz in djeneral. lots of memories baked into this record and every live show off this cycle they demolished
