>this album has good moments but it's mostly just so bored, tired, and lifeless. half of the riffs sound the exact same.

in other words the same issue thats plagued them to greater or lesser extent ever since the 90s

some would say it even goes back to ajfa, but i think the deeper and further into metal you dig, the more you realise that album was fairly innovative ... even if a lot of the bands that were inspired by it probably took it in a less interesting direction

"This is solid, but I can’t be the only person who thinks Death Magnetic is vastly superior to it"

I don't know if "vastly superior" but I like both albums. Honestly I enjoy this as much as DM if I cut out two songs ("Am I Savage?" and "ManUNkind") and leave it as a 10-track album.

Ha. They're the 2 I'd cut too

You know it, mate. Also very nice picks! I have to admit I didn't like "Confusion" at first but it has grown on me quite a lot, specially after listening to the S&M2 version.

I heard S&M2 once but will revisit Confusion. Hardwired is a very Hetfield album which I like

Yeah, I'd cut those two songs as well. With that said, despite how long this album is, it's still quite solid. Fun riffs and solos all around

Probably going to give this another shot too. Remember thinking it was very underwhelming but I only listened in full once. Death Magnetic was much better imo.

Hetfield wants to be a Country Rock star so bad that I honestly just want him to nut up and make a damn Country album under his own name.

I mean yeah Load and Reload are pretty Country, but not as much. Like even here he adds a bit of twang to his vocals that is just so obvious.

James Hetfield is such a Country sounding name too I'm genuinely surprised he hasn't done it yet.

I really just want James to make a country rock solo record. Let him wear the cowboy hat he so clearly badly wants to wear.

The guy is also a huge fan of doom metal and has listed albums by Pallbearer, Khemmis, Candlemass, and Horn of the Rhino in his all-time favorites. I'd love to see some doom thrown into Metallica's mix.

Some doom influence in Metallica's music would be pretty cool

I got dissapointed with this one. Generic, long and boring songs. Give me St Anger over this, anyday.
