Yea but Radiohead has more mainstream appeal than Maiden, since Maiden is metal and metal is never going to be as popular on the charts. Maiden was much bigger in Europe too though. Even so I remember hearing Maiden more than Radiohead growing up which is weird. Maiden is mentioned in every metal documentary/show and they're always showing their concerts on Palladia/VH1 Classic. I remember hearing Run To The Hills/Number Of The Beast all the time on KROC. Radiohead just seemed to get lost for whatever reason. Its the same thing with bands like Oasis, Blur, and all those Britpop bands. No love for Britain I guess. Radiohead is practically underground/indie-ish here, albeit a very popular one.

Metal was never as mainstream as the alternative bands though. Metal has always been a fringe genre unless you count the 80s Hair Metal as metal, but that shit was just pop music with guitars. Nu Metal was just pop music with angst. Other than that metal hasnt seen many bands at all sneak into the top 100. Not anything like bands with Radiohead type sound.

I mean what was the last metal single to be in the top 100? One of the songs on Death Magnetic? Youd think Radiohead would be feasting in our top 100 but they've only had 3 songs crack it. Even if the albums sell well and they sell out arenas they are still not very mainstream here. Thats all Im saying.

charts haven't meant shit in regards to gauging popularity for over a decade

Yea they do. Alot of people still listen to the radio/mtv for their music obviously which is why pop music is bigger now than ever. Its rare now for even a rock/hard rock song to crack the top 100 let alone metal. Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and like Nickelback are some of the only ones who sneak in consistently and thats just because they have huge names.

"Its rare now for even a rock/hard rock song to crack the top 100 let alone metal"

I never said people dont listen to them. Im saying as far as a mainstream level hard rock and metal have never been smaller. You really gonna fuckin deny that rock is as big now as it was from the 60s-90s? Or that metal is as big as it was in the 80s/90s? Practically every rock radio station on NY has turned to pop. Wherever I go outside of a rock/metal concert people are mainly listening to pop and hip hop. Indie has seen some popularity but thats it.

Is it strange that this is the only Radiohead album I really enjoyed? I never really understood why they have such hype to be honest, but I will admit, this is a good album.

Amnesiac is really good as well. It's no Kid A especially since it's similar musically but it does fucking rule, it's annoying that it doesn't get much recognition.

eh Pulk is rather unimpressive to me and then there's Hunting Bears which is just Treefingers Part 2, so i think Kid A edges it out but Amnesiac is a solid 4.5

They way they ordered them here was genius, especially with the final 3 being the best

@Mancuso: Yeah I agree with you fully, I still don't mind those songs much but yeah Kid A is better. Amnesiac is a solid 4.5 and yes Pull/Pulk is too long.
