ooo BOLA is so good. I'm not a fan of sleep now in the fire or Born of a broken man, but fuck man if you ignore Voice of the Voiceless the run from 7-12 goes so hard.

Maria / New Millenium / Ashes / War are top-tier RATM.

Are you guys fucking joking me lol

"lol what are you talking about, all their fucking singles are down tuned"

Literally everything they ever wrote is in either standard tuning or drop d

"just because they arent derivative of shitty nu metal tropes doesnt mean they arent, half of what you listed has nothing to do with the criteria"

So is every band that raps and somehow incorporates some heavy guitar in their music nu-metal then? I'd love to know what your criteria lmao

Also "Riffs are a lot closer to classic rock than they are to nu metal" =/= "Rage Against the Machine is a classic rock band"... and no they are a lot closer to classic rock, you can plainly see this by the fact that Morrello didn't change anything about his playing style at all in Audioslave... unless we wanna say Audioslave is nu metal too ofcourse

These guys don't have a nu metal tag on here. None of their albums even have a nu metal secondary on rym (like not even close if you look at votes)... which really says something when you consider the amount of people out there that absolutely hates this band.

"They don't down tune their guitar they just play in drop D"

"They don't have a nu metal tag on sput so they aren't nu metal"

And I know you are being sarcastic, but that is essentially more than half the criteria, yea. That aside, they were so absolutely key in establishing nu metal bro, like they were so clearly part of that movement and wave. A lot of genre defining has to do with timing and culture, sitting back and analyzing pieces to argue genres out of context is just stubborn. I mean even beyond that, it's like that judges quote on porn. Defining this shit is tricky but there's no doubt in my mind this is nu metal.

You're still bringing up shit about how nu metal is a negative attribute so it makes me think you're being defensive over it? Or maybe I'm getting trolled hard. Either way, I think you're being silly right now so I'm sorry if I'm coming off too strong

Not being defensive about the "nu-metal" tag at all bro... I have three Deftones 5s for crying out loud. I just think Rage is very different from the Korns and Deftones that spawned during their peak and the more hip hop centric nu metal bands that came out by the time they hung it up.

Yes they played a big part in establishing nu metal... doesn't mean they're a nu metal band. Venom and Motorhead played a big part in establishing black metal, doesn't mean they are black metal bands.

And if more than half the criteria for nu metal is rapping over heavy guitars, then would you describe those early 90s Beastie Boys albums "nu-metal tinged"? What about Public Enemy? The last few Death Grips albums?

Also image-wise they weren't nu metal at all... no baggy jeans and blonde tips here

Okay thats fair. Idk much about Death Grips but BB and Public Enemy are obviously rap groups not rock groups. It's the % of focus on each portion. Image wise they are totally nu metal imo

I agree though. This isn't nu metal. It's not their fault the nu metal scene took this album and Faith No More's early stuff as inspiration and created an infamous genre.

This is nu-metal as fuck bro, just continue to be blinded by your ignorance. Everyone knows nu-metal is a scene & not a real genre. It’s code for fake metal with shitty white boy rap in it, or ‘post-FNM but not as good as FNM’ bollocks.

Tom Morellos guitar has pickups therefore it's nu metal
