Kodama is another hard 5 but this is just a tiny bit better for me. God I love this band so much.

Yeah, Écailles and Kodama are the best and closer than I ever would have hoped them to be prior to Kodama's release

Kodama gets extra points because I expected poppy lighthearted gaze going forward after Shelter, so I never expected an album like Kodama at all.

And every track rules over and over and over until Onyx, which is fine.

Honestly I prefer to keep the lyrics a mystery, even though I can understand French decently I can't really parse the lyrics here anyways but when I've looked them up they're mostly cheesy fluff. Rather leave it to my imagination what he's singing about.

Like those translated lyrics sound nice but I think the music communicates the general feeling better on its own.

French romanticism is a thing you could check out.

"The movement emphasized intense emotion as an authentic source of aesthetic experience, placing new emphasis on such emotions as apprehension, horror and terror, and awe—especially that experienced in confronting the new aesthetic categories of the sublimity and beauty of nature."

Nice translation, I knew this band had fantastic lyrics. Everything about this album is perfection, and yea Kodama is pretty close too.

Those tortured wails in Percees de Lumiere are still one of the most emotional things I've ever heard. Always hits hard.

Part 2 is literally like surviving a storm.. starts off calm (calm before the storm), then the storm hits, then it's calm again (eye of the storm) then it hits hard again. Idk it's really hard to describe, that's just the way I've always viewed it.
