@Emyay True, I understand the concern. Maybe we should mail him regarding that haha. Yeah no growls is a common issue with the fans, but I love his singing and some of the vocal lines are very memorable so I don't mind. Plus it keeps things fresh.
But lets see, apparently he's started writing for the new album, but the media blows even the slightest mention of future plans out of proportion, I bet he's written one riff or something :P.

Heritage is a beautiful album. Häxprocess, Folklore and I Feel The Dark are easily some of Opeth's best songs

Yeah I love I feel the dark, it doesn't get enough love, and when that solo comes, orgasm, so simple yet so powerful with an incredible atmospheric backdrop. Mikaels acoustic guitar work is fantastic, but I feel he overused it on Heritage. He should've experimented more with clean tones.
Plus some transitions are too odd, especially Famine, which has a great intro with the flute and percussions and then suddenly the piano comes in, transitions like that really bug me.

Nepenthe is great too.

Per Wiberg has some great contributions. His solo in Burden makes me feel that Akerfeldt should've let him tear it up on the new album. On every album in fact, that Burden solo is absolute killer! Hammond organ FTFW!!!

Yeah Nepenthe is cool, good guitar tone and great vibe. Also Axe's drumming has improved exponentially, incredible sense of groove on Heritage. *Takes hat off

I feel sorry for Per man. He never seems to get any attention during the meet and greets, its a pity. He is a huge contribution to the sound of the band.

Ya Per won't be around for the next album though... I think he'll be missed, that Burden solo reallly is awesome.

Yeah man, and in the DVDs what he adds to the older material is great man, incredible musician. Dude he plays the guitar and sings in his other band as well. These damn Scandinavians are born with all the damn talent.

Proud Swede right here bro m/ Actually met Mikael in the south part of Stockholm for the second time not too long ago. He often just wanders around it seems, with some music in his ears.

I watched the doc on the making of Heritage and Per was like a zombie during the recording. Just didn't care, didn't have any input, didn't talk to anyone. Just came in and played his stuff (which is pretty lax on this album).
Guess he just lost the interest.

Hey hey don't get me wrong I love the Scandinavians haha. Mikaels a comedian, his self deprecative humour is second to none. I bet he spends most of his time in record stores. I'm surprised Steven Wilson wasn't there with him :P.

I can imagine when there's a band 'leader' who writes all or most of the music and lets the other members fiddle around here and there, then a creative musician would get fed up. But obviously I've never sat in during a recording session so I can only speculate.

Yeah the replacement Jaokim seems good, he can play all the old parts. There are some Opeth videos on youtube with him performing, you should check them out. Also Jaokim played on the title track on Heritage.
