Heck. Jealous. Dont know if these guys hit the UK that often, but I really need to stay on top of whose coming my local venues. Well, not for the next few weeks anyway.

saw them live, and while they were flawless Christian is also weird about people getting rowdy. He literally told us to stop pushing and moshing. So everyone just stood there awkwardly the whole show, it really killed morale. Wasn't the emotional cathartic release I was hoping for

I get it to a degree - if I'm trying to chill at a show and not be stuck at the back of the venue, it can be frustrating to have to put up with getting pushed around. But equally the rowdyness and excitement is kinda part of the experience, and forcing people to stand around like lemons and killing the ability of people to react naturally to their music seems like an odd solution.

I've heard that's what their live shows have turned into and I can't get down with that. Respect, but not my cup of tea, and I think it dismisses the strong emotional reactions people can have.

I’m of the school that pretty much just likes to chill at concerts, I’ll tap my foot and maybe sway a bit but that’s about it, but I still like to be close to the front so it can be really annoying when people try to mosh violently. Personally I think that kind of moshing is stupid and I would never do it, but in general I say let people do what they want as long as it doesn’t bother anyone else. That’s the trouble with moshing - you really need everyone to be ok with it unless you have clearly designated moshing areas (not something I’ve seen before but I assume this exists at some venues), otherwise I think it’s kind of inappropriate/inconsiderate. Most shows I go to don’t really draw crowds that want to mosh anyways so it’s usually not an issue but the couple times I have gone to a show like that it’s been really annoying. I have the same issue with standing when there are seats - it’s inconsiderate to people in front of you to stand, especially when you’re near the front and already have good seats. So I see both sides here, but I appreciate where he’s coming from by asking people to just chill. Especially because in this case, they’re a chill enough band that I would bet they get kind of a mix of people who usually tend more hardcore and those who are soft indie bois like me.

Moshing to this drivel?
More likely to whip up a knitted sweater.

Now I'm trying to imagine a crowd of people moshing around with sewing needles and wool yarn

yeah I guess I shouldn't say moshing because it's not so much that, more like all the pushing/cramming like sardines/stage-diving mentality. emo stuff like this definitely evokes a raw visceral emotional response from people so just standing around and quietly singing to yourself feels weird. would be different if they were folk or something

that lack of space between “no” & “place” is ruining me

I wouldn't mosh to this, but I would definitely be going a bit crazy and screaming along without a doubt.

The hotelier opened for Joyce Manor and we still thrashed around a bit to 1-2 songs off this album. It was eeerily still tho at times but Joyce Manor headlined and once they started playing ppl moshed NON. STOP. shit was insanity.
Moshing at a show is what got me into live music even tho I loved concerts, once I got my taste of a punk moshpit I never stopped wanting to create that environment. If you don't like it but you like a couple bands in the scene (boney) standing in the back at a small venue does NOT ruin the experience and I've done it several times when I've been with people not comfortable moshing. You might just have to be prepared to give up your inner fangirl of needing to see a band IN THE FRONT (which is something I considered necessary for years before College)
