yeah, i definitely like this a lot more than most give it credit for. not as good as remission, leviathan, or cts, but i dont really see it as the huge drop in quality that most people make it out to be.

A lot of people seem upset that they "sold out." Simpler/shorter songs, less fill-heavy drumming, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus on several songs, less harsh vocals, soft radio-ready production, etc etc.
Oh and that part where Brent goes "I want to fuck you till you're inside out," where did that come from? Were you listening to FFDP while writing lyrics? Roll over, Ahab.

this still has some weird and proggy shit in it though. its definitely really catchy, and maybe they did do it to be more accessible, but if they were selling out here, its one of those rare instances where their music didnt suffer for it. if anything id think Once More Round the Sun is their sellout album. that one has almost no weirdness and the prog is turned even further down. even that album i have 3.5'd though.

I want to like this album. I was so excited for it I must have listed to it a hundred times in the first week (then again, I ran an audio cable out my laptop's headphone jack and into its mic jack to record Crack the Skye in mono off Mastodon's MySpace because I couldn't stand waiting for a downloadable version, so hype is relative).
