Had a Seymour Duncan Hotrail in my old Squier Tele in hs. Got the pick up installted and the guitar restrung, the intonation done. That was the best guitar I ever owned until the whole input ripped out and game over

Well, HSS Stratocasters are good. In my opinion I feel like Strat bridge pickups are a bit weak, espcially compared to a Tele
bridge. But I'd never get one with two humbuckers. Those single coil neck/mid tones define a Strat.

Hotrails are pretty cool I think. I can forgive them because they at least look like single coils haha.
Honestly, I love the looks of a Tele, but the sound of a Strat. Not saying a Tele doesn't sound great but like you said, those in-between sounds from a Strat are must haves.
