The heritage direction was the right one to take after this album imo. This felt contrived and tired.

Yeah I agree to a certain extent about heritage. It felt as if Mikael was playing it safe and not fully exploring the new direction he had taken, fearing an extreme backlash maybe? Even though he seems to not care about the fans opinions.

i hope so man, but that album got too much love (it was in decibels top 5 for 2011 i believe). it got hate, but for stupid reasons. it seemed like either you loved it, or you just hated it because it had no harsh vocals. my opinion is just that its not THAT good. if you're mikael, you're thinking "hey i made the album i wanted to make...and woah, people loved it too!"



doesn't seem like any reason for him change anything up



that being said, i did really enjoy the songs from that album live, but i think that is just because Opeth are such a great live band
