I stick mostly the the metal side of extreme music, but even I recognize Jane Doe as an epic achievment in dissonant, heavy, and ugly (Beautiful in it's ugliness) music. One of my favorites outside the metal genre.

Metalcore is hardcore that is heavy enough to be metal. Harsher, bigger, usually Slayer and death metal influenced, and with more breakdowns than regular hardcore.
