Okey guys I really fucking like this album but don't know opeth that well. I listened to one of their hit songs from earlier albums once (won't give you the name but atmosphere was very doomlike [slow, sounded like you're going through the wasteland and are depresssed], about 10-15 mins long) and didnt like that at all.

Knowing that, which album would you reccomend for my second Opeth dosage?

oh on the sidenote, I did listen to Deliverance but not counting that as 2nd album since its technically part of this one

It seems you're not too interested in their more metal-oriented style. This makes their pre-Damnation albums less suitable for your tastes I'd think.

You could try Heritage, Pale Communion or In Cauda Venenum. Perhaps Ghost Reveries and Watershed might appeal to you too.

I was going to suggest Ghost Reveries, because if in doubt it always seems like a sensible catch-all solution.

Yeah, I agree. It's one of their crowning achievements, incorporating many of their different styles very successfully in a way that is also viable on its own.

GR is a blend of prog and DM; everything after Watershed is full-on prog, with Heritage being among their best albums regardless of genre (in my opinion).

Indeed, and also, Ghost Reveries is one of their best. Good choice.

GR is a great choice if you can get past the DM vox, since that's not your thing. If not, as Trifolium rec'd, try Heritage or In Cauda Venenum. Those are great album with zero DM growls.

Finished Heritage today, I'll post some thoughts under the album discussion there. GR is too "deathy" for me since death is probably my least favourite (or most hated i guess lol) of all metal subgenres. Moving to PC now and will build my way up to ICV

nevermind, came back to it little earlier. Also, upped to 4.5. It's very hard to convince me with minimalistic approach and this album does it so well

Same yeah. Next to Windowpane (of course) and Hope Leaves. Closure and Ending Credits are nice too.

The problem for me here is the mellotron and Steven Wilson. It makes some of the other tracks very annoying.
