'Brand New were not significant : )'
Of course not, because they don't make Midwest emo.

That list doesn't just contain midwest emo. I tried to include other genres that were an outgrowth of, or overlap with, the genre.
It includes emo pop, math rock and even emo rap.

That list needs Turning Point, Endpoint, Ink and Dagger, Thursday, Alkaline Trio, Dag Nasty, Antioch Arrow, Heroin, One Last Wish, Gray Matter, The Hated, Embrace, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Faith/Void split, Swiz, Policy of 3, Swing Kids, In/Humanity and some Screamo bands

But an okay-ish list nonetheless.

It's a good list though I'm still not sure Brand New would qualify as any of: "emo pop, math rock and even emo rap," outside of maybe 'Your Favorite Weapon,' which is arguably more pop-punk than anything.
But anyway.

@Deadbitch
The list was focused more on the indie side of emo and not emocore or screamo. I originally had Dag Nasty on the list, but removed them.

Why do you think the list is just ok-ish?

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

sorry, I had to post this pasta

I did read the title. Id still say that like a small quip on Screamo wouldnt be a bad thing especially since a fair amount of Mathy Emo bands do have some crossover with shit like Hot Cross and Off Minor and Post-Rock was pretty prominent in Screamo which bled into Midwest as well kinda.

Removing Dag Nasty? wtf? They were one of the most prominent bands to rise from Revolution Summer.

The reason for why I removed them had nothing to do with the quality of the band.
Again, they are not relevant to indie emo.
Mentioning Rite of Spring is enough.

As for screamo, more bands could be included. There already is some on the list.

at this point they were barely emo so I dont really care how individual people rank them among other emo bands. This is pretty much just rock. The opener really sets the tone for the album, and "emo" is definitely not the first word that comes to mind. next album was grunge/rock, and album after that was a mix of all of their sounds. Lumping them in with the general "pop punk/emo" is pointless as of 2006

I agree that they are not a pure emo band. They are more alt rock.
But in your earlier comment you implied that they were influential and started a movement. I assumed you were talking about emo.

nah, they were influential but it's not like they started a new wave of emo or anything
