Von Dutch, cult classic but I still pop
I get money, you get mad because the bank shut
Yeah, I know your little secret, put your hands up
It's so obvious, I'm your number one, life

^ this guy definitely has a lot of metal in his chart. don't even have to check

lmk which disingenuous standard we're phoning in to cite 'depth' as a requirement for a straightforward putdown track, and for extra points see if you can name a single 2024 pop track that has attached more depth to more succinct lyricism than Rewind or Girl So Confusing
(there are certainly answers, but I'm willing to bet you ain't heard any of them)

ngl i avoided this for months because i thought i'd get sent threats, harassment or even people pointing out my How Could This Happen to Me rating if i didn't have this bare minimum at a 4
while i do enjoy it, it begs me to wonder when the internet-wide re-evaluation of 2000s EDM like Cascada is coming because Evacuate the Dancefloor > Brat imo

I just don’t understand most of the (/any?) references here so that part is unsurprisingly lost on me. The idea of this being ‘catchy’ is also wild because I really don’t think it ‘bangs’ at all…
or
If I could tap my toe a little it’d help alleviate my anxiety. I’m left feeling old and confused, which acts as a microcosm of my general feelings towards the younger generations. This realisation renders me highly frustrated and thus I need to deploy a strong negative rating as an objection

girl, so confusing's lyrics come off as satire they're so on the nose. like an snl skit or something

someone said that they could get a trans allegory out of those lyrics so in a way i think that's one of the reasons that's a highlight. production is solid, I'm not crazy about any of the small hyperpop elements here but that's all I really dislike

Found a metal remix of Sympathy Is a Knife and now I wanna see some crossover stuff between Charli and like, BMTH or something, I feel like that'd be cool

oh no no we do NOT need that

feel like they'd work well together, or Charli and another artist in that sphere, the more energetic backing just feels like it'd benefit songs like that, i'm not fully into the artistic direction of the original song so that may just be me

i was also expecting way more hyperpop and was pleasantly surprised at how pared back that side was, that's the one popular style on the internet more than any other where I feel like i'm doomed to just not be a fan (doesn't help that people stereotype us trans girls as all loving it, so it feels like i'm committing some sort of sacrilege to not be into it)

Every Time We Touch does bang harder than anything [here or ever] and will probably age better once I stop caring about Charli enough to value her identity portrait or metatextual shit here but

Johnny told me to vote for this on my ballot since I have an open space (only heard 9 2024 albums lol oops)
BUT idk if I can vote for Brat in good confidence without at least hearing it in full first, so yeah on track 2 right now lmao
