Side 1 is really good as a whole tbh. And even amazing in places. Side 2 drags this down, bar Spit Out The Bone

Revenge had so much potential with that intro and then blah.

This album is better than I thought it would be. The main problem being that it's so fucking long. Songs go from great to good to average when they keep just dragging on.

They have released at least three superb albums with song selections of Load/Reload, Death Magnetic/Beyond Magnetic and with this one as well, including the song "Lords of Summer". I'm in the minority here but I actually enjoy late Matallica with the exception of St. Anger.

I enjoy it too, but there is quite some filler. If you cut them there is still lots of great material though

Right. Specially on the Load/Reload era there's tons of filler and you'd still get at least 8-9 killer songs. With this one I'd probably leave it at 9. First half + Heres Comes Revenge + Spit out the Bone + Lords of Summer.

S&M2 rules... head and shoulders above the first one honestly.

I’d just mix the five best songs on this with Beyond Magnetic. I enjoyed that EP a decent amount, homestly.

I'll treat disc 2 as b-sides from now on. Single riffs in these songs are awesome like the heavy triplet riff in Am I Savage. But the songs themselves don't do it.

"Sold your soul

Built a higher wall

Yesterday

Now you're thrown away

Same rise and fall

Who cares at all?

Seduced by fame

A moth into the flame"

Hetfield can say this is inspired by Amy Winehouse all he wants, but I got a bridge to sell you if you don't think this is at least partly autobiographical. Bout as subtle as a brick to the face.
