Water is actually a good metaphor for this record, cause nothing sticks. Some drops of excellence here and there, but that's it.

The best way to hear this is on vinyl. I just bought a record player and some good speakers, and it sounds incredible. Even the drums have that punch that most thought it lacked, amazing record.

^^^ Agreed, the shit production doesn't sound nearly as shit on vinyl. Need to give this record another spin soon, my opinion on it goes between "boring as fuck" and "really not so bad"

I had to listen to it for a while before it grew on me, at first I had it a 3. After a month or two, it became my favorite Deftones album along with White Pony.

Half their albums have less than a 4 average, including their best SNW :/

@Underflow: The past couple years have been much harder for popular albums to retain a 4+ average on here so it's not surprising.

SNW is the height of their experimentation imo and is their dreamiest and lightest aside from this. It was probably due to backlash at the time of release that the average is so low. Diamond Eyes was probably so well received by fans because it retains the nu-metal riffs while having amazing choruses.

For me WP and DE are in a class by themselves, the rest of their discog is solid but nothing more

I too loved Diamond Eyesfor a couple of years, then it grew off me almost over night for some reason, now It's one of my least favorite of their discog. I used to love the punchiness and succinctness of it but now I prefer deftones more experimental releases like Koi and SNW but im pretty sure Im said the same thing word for word just a few pages back

Agreed with Balls. DE has some of their best songs, but SNW is my favorite. Hole in the Earth is mind-blowing. Even Pink Cellphone is good, before that last minute anyway.

The production on Gore disagrees with me. It seems sterile

It's this album's biggest problem yea. I went back and mentioned it in the review cause it got to be a problem for me on repeated listens.

New night verses and new chevelle are both quite better than this
