"if something's lackluster, it will bring the overall quality of a song/ep/album down."
Hmm depends. If we're talking the innovation of Tool's guitar riffs, the drumming on Yndi Halda tracks, or the unescapable minor-chord ABCfest on the Mantle as butt mentioned, then yeah probably. I wouldn't say this music is lackluster so much as template though, and that works as a foundation for the lyric delivery. There are a couple times when they switch it up nicely (Housebroken, Wildflowers) but on the whole I don't think these arrangements really need to be unconservative

(and also you could make similar arguments about what the music does/doesn't need for Tool and Agalloch but lol not today)

butt.

"but it's pretty fucking obvious that if something's lackluster, it will bring the overall quality of a song/ep/album down."

it's also pretty fucking obvious, given that you're the only one here who regularly drops in to shit on this record, that nothing here is glaringly lackluster. You don't have to like it, but stop pretending it's objectively bad

Nah let him have his fun. It'd get boring in here if it was just us circle jerking about how great Christian is with his words and stuff.

Same. Thing is too good to drop. Goodness fell off a bit for me, too many tracks I don't care for, but it still has some magnificent highs (Two Deliverances, Soft Animal, Sun).

I jammed last night. Needed some emotional company. But goddamn yeah, this stings. This record has seen me through some shit. Still does.

I've never found this difficult to get through tbh. It's just pure catharsis.
