infinity was such a high point of low in its own ways, i think. And then Alien and continuing SYL came with their own problems.

ohh ok. Yeah he said during a guitar clinic that he and his wife have their own rooms because having a private space to fart is rly nice.

That story about him showing is parents is actually really tragic, but I lol'ed at Beav's reaction afterwards

Finally getting to these podcasts. The fact that he draws a line from Ocean Machine to Metallica's black album is fully blowing my mind.

This album always felt so long and impenetrable to me. Average score is so high though, guess I need to give it another shot

Also, a podcast with Devy sounds absolutely amazing. Have to get on that soon

Townsend is a spaz who shits genius so frequently that even on his lesser albums there is something excellent to find. In the greater pantheon of his stuff this one has probably grown the most over the years for me. The fact that this was released the same year as City is pretty incredible. I feel like Townsend maybe doesn't get enough credit for infusing extreme metal with the lighter more hopeful elements that pervade current day prog metal. If he wasn't a pioneer then he was sure as hell an early adopter.

the fact that he had a hard time getting this album picked up by a label at all but he got almost immediate street cred with City is so baffling.

also the fact that he thinks Accelerated Evolution "doesn't hold up" when it's one of his more acclaimed records is kinda funny.
