Nah Billy really isn't a "great" singer in the traditional sense. He certainly does write music that suits his voice quite well. But on Smashing Pumpkins' cover of Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down Again, instrumentally it's very interesting but Billy's vocals, quite frankly, are bad on it

Have you heard him live? From Siamese era SP to modern SP, Billy's vocals have remarkably stayed solid; that is his voice naturally sounds "whiny" and over the years it's admirable how there's been little drop in quality with his live voice
