What exactly would this be defined as? Serious question.
Like it’s “”obviously”” black metal. But on the other hand it sounds nothing like traditionalist black metal e.g. Burzum, (old) Ulver, Mayhem, or even contemporary revamps of that style like Paysage d’Hiver or even Mgla.
This is completely different.
But what other genre could accurately define it? Prog metal doesn’t feel right, technical DM or even just DM doesn’t quite capture it, despite its “mathy” elements this doesn’t have the same sound as most mathcore, not sure it’s outre enough to brandish the avant-garde tag...
But “black metal” alone doesn’t tell the whole story and I find it very intriguing.
One of the best metal albums of the 2010s.

tec have u ever heard funeral mist
or any 2000s mayhem

Yeah this can't be avant-metal there's no polka rhythms or fart samples.
The cool kids called this ORTHODOX BLACK METAL. The label has gone out of fashion now though. For the better imo.

Deathsmell Smegma
funeral mist [2], Leviathan, Abigor and 1349. There are a few precedents for their sound.
