His work in Fade to Black dude, seriously I struggle to listen to that track without getting emotional nowadays for some reason haha.

Probably helps that the song is damn beautiful and one of the best ballads ever written.

It's actually shocking how good of a bassist Rob is, and it's even more shocking at how little he's utilized by Metallica

Didn't James and Lars say how they wanted to be at the front of the music with everyone else at the back or some shit?

is it really that shocking?

i mean listen to newstead's work with f&j and then listen to his work with tallica where his basslines are retardedly simple and he's phased out of the mix most of the time

Really don't get the low ratings with this one. It's a fantastic and fun record, which is what Metallica have been about since the black album.

I think it's just the production that bothers people tbh

I mean Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One and The Day That Never Comes are all basically the same song

thats not really fair man

but yea its a lovely song; to my ears, the difference in quality between the mellow segments and the 'thrashy' ones is the clearest indicator that metallica should stop trying to pander to metalheads though
