well if it was just a nu-metal thing I feel like they would have already had enough on their plate with Korn, Limp Bizkit & friends by the time this one came out, which was essentially a "daytime" version of those bands with zero cursing and more prominent Depeche Mode influences

I remember first watching the One Step Closer vid with Mike having red hair and them being upside down or something and being really scared haha

Don't ever mention my Depeche Mode and new Linkin Park in the same sentence ever again!

pretty sure he was mentioning Depeche Mode and old LP

Well, Depeche Mode respected a lot LP, they even asked mike to mike a remix of enjoy the silence and dave gahan defended constantly the band. Besides post meteora LP with the exception of OML is not bad, in fact THP is a fuckin underrated classic, besides MTM, ATS and LT had killer tracks like TLTGYA, Given Up, What I've Done, No More Sorrow, Blackout, Iridiscent, Lost In the Echo, Castle Of Glass, Powerless and more
HEIL CHESTER AND 5 THIS OR DERP

True true, and he did a damn good job doing the remix
|

Minutes is the only post-Meteora LP album I've actually heard in full
I remember the first 6 or so tracks being pretty solid but somewhere along the line I was practically in disbelief with how corny some of the songs were

Well, MTM goes downhill until no more sorrow, still the little things give away is a pretty solid track
By the way, filthy cunts rating this album with 2 should be castrated. HEIL CHESTER AND 5 THIS OR DERP

ATS is cool but It could have been so much better with a more rock or metal oriented sound, HT, Meteora and THP are the classic ones buddy

nah they absolutely have their moments but a thousand suns is probably their only album that isnt just single after single and actually feels like a fully cohesive listen, which is even more elevated by the quality of the songs (the catalyst, iridescent, waiting for the end, blackout, wretches and kings, when they come for me and the messenger are probably all in my top 10 songs from the band)
|
| |
I agree that the effrot is cohesive as hell, and that enhaces the experience, the thing is that I prefer the more rock oriented efforts of linkin. Sure most of those songs with the exception of messenger are good ( specially blackout which is a masterpiece) but a vast a tracks of the nu metal and THP era are more solid, specially breakin the habit, a place for my head, mark the graves and a line in the sand. They should have used for ATS the sound of tracks like mark the grave, if they have used that the whole album will be considered by everybody a timeless classic

i love the messenger lol
i like the sound of the first two albums and hunting party but for me a thousand suns is their most risky effort and it payed off really really really well. the only lp album id ever consider 5ing imo, tho to varying degrees i like all their other stuff (besides oml)
|
| |
going from the covers alone (which was pretty much all I had to go by aside from reviews) Living Thing was the most appealing
reading about The Hunting Party was kind of baffling, Mike Shinoda said they were "abandoning the electronic sound and going back to their earlier approach" or something like that and I was just like, what? the electronic sound was my favorite thing about the early music!

yeah hunting party is a lesser lp album for me tbh but thats probably because i love their more electronic stuff (a thousand suns and living things are their two best imo)
|
| |
On the other hand is love more their rock and metal oriented stuff, still the electronic stuff of LP is excellent and among certain rock and electronic circles underrated as fuck.

Tbh I would have been more appealing and interesting that after THP they mixed the hard rock and alt metal sound of that record with the scratches and electronic stuff of mr hahn. Sadly we got the mashup between imagine dragons,21 pilots and the chainsmokers. Still I consider THP by far their most solid post meteora effort
