It seems like sometimes people get really homogenous views on things like that in a sort of peer-pressure way at times too, so it may not be that they’re fans, but want to join the mob in the hunt

that'll do it too lol. i think the moral of the story is be a little nicer to people trying to branch out. some people seem to be so insistent that they're right (i've been guilty of this before) that they can't see reason, and if your approach is immediately combative, it doesn't make things easier for people.

In more extreme cases, to step outside of speaking of music specifically, there are also times when there won’t be reason seen, even if one side is on a way clearly wrong morally, and there are no ways to settle it peacefully without leaving it. Then, combative may be fine if the person doesn’t care about burning that particular bridge or find it necessary for some other reason
