context: my friend was in the live chat of one of Rocked's streams, made a comment about merely preferring a cover over an original song (in this case, 311 over The Cure for Lovesong) and the entire live chat went nuclear on him for it.
As if subjective taste isn't a thing.
the "blah blah listen to less of this and listen to more of this instead" stuff I see just makes me want to double down on what I like already out of spite tbh approach matters way way more than people think it does.

"listen to more good 80s post-punk
listen to less shitty 00s10s20s scenecore
get out of the arsehole of your incredibly myopic nostalgic cravings
enjoy the cure
job fucking done"
in other words: "blah blah listen to less of this and listen to more of this instead because i'm better than you"

this feels like more of a result of the kinds of music fans that flock to youtube reviewers are rather than cure fans in general, which is much larger than the bubble of rocked fans

bubs: makes sense.
row he's fine lmao it just annoys me that assholes are more willing to tear someone down for having immediate thoughts that don't align with the consensus (unless it's some like really dangerous opinion i don't get it) than try to be constructive.

your friend was in the live chat of a stream by a channel with this logo https://yt3.googleusercontent.com/ytc/AOPolaS5JbqS2quK8RpfwAb-jp4t6ImKztNEpHhN-XQLmQ=s176-c-k-c0x00ffffff-no-rj
i dont think this has to do with cure fans lol

i mean technically they are cure fans if they're willing to dogpile someone for liking a different version more than the cure version
either that or they really really hate 311 (that cover's okay ig)

@Ryus
That should be on a Hot Wheels car

It seems like sometimes people get really homogenous views on things like that in a sort of peer-pressure way at times too, so it may not be that they’re fans, but want to join the mob in the hunt

that'll do it too lol. i think the moral of the story is be a little nicer to people trying to branch out. some people seem to be so insistent that they're right (i've been guilty of this before) that they can't see reason, and if your approach is immediately combative, it doesn't make things easier for people.
|
| |
True! In more extreme cases, to step outside of speaking of music specifically, there are also times when there won’t be reason seen, even if one side is on a way clearly wrong morally, and there are no ways to settle it peacefully without leaving it. Then, combative may be fine if the person doesn’t care about burning that particular bridge or find it necessary for some other reason

eventually, sure, i'm working on being less impulsive but man some people are just like "oh my god why would you say that blah blah blah" it's just not conducive to convincing people to dig deeper - if anything it would make me wanna stay away
|
| |
Yeah, with this, combative definitely isn’t going to go anywhere constructive. It’s more just ragging on someone, which may be meant in a joking way at times, sure, but if one side doesn’t find much humour in it, then why does the either still, right?
