This is probably the least mathy Rolo album, but the prominence of those elements in all their other work has made DEP the easiest point of cheap comparison with them throughout their career. Dillinger stepping down and Rolo upping their game just makes for a lazy succession narrative that follows on naturally from that comparison

I’m fine with being lazy

DEP are better overall but half the albums they released are less interesting, less cohesive & generally worse than this one.

Might 5 this
Still has absolutely 0 in common with Dillinger, but whatever
To me that's like comparing Notorious B.I.G. and Cryptopsy

someone mentioned earlier the devil sold his soul influence which i'd say is much more pervasive than the dillinger comparisons - all i can see in that regard is that they're both mathcorei guess
they have reallyramped up the post-metal influence over the last two albums though

This is mathcore? Maybe their earlier albums, but to me this sounds more like progressive/post metal. Dillinger is more punk/math/whatever metal

There's definitely mathy moments but I'd say this is somewhere in between that and something along the lines of post metal ye

What songs have the math moments? I've jammed this a whole bunch and I can't find any.

alma mater i'd say has that for example, and some of the riffing on here is very mathy, but yeah its mostly post-metal

It has mathy elements for sure but on as a whole, I wouldn't call it that.

Grievances is already better than this for me.

Fuck, I really gotta jam that more

This definitely has mathcore elements, the album as a whole is something else entirely, the cohesive flow of Time Will Die is something special. If the album spoke to me on a level beyond it’s appreciative qualities, one which cannot be described, then I’d raise my rating.

Album Rating: 3.0
It only sounds more cohesive due to it just being more post than anything mathy.

Surely the incorporation of post-rock/post-hardcore elements & the like is a greater indication of being able to write a cohesive body of work? Moreso than compiling one entrenched within a rigid set of boundaries previously decided upon.
