Nah, mix is ok. Nothing spectacular but not bad.

The mix is what makes this my favorite Ulcerate. It's so dense and noisy (hated that at first)

the mastering is really bad but the vinyl release is distinct from it and much better. get it or a rip if you can

like it's brickwalled and all but the songs are so powerful it doesn't really matter, their music is kinda dense and loud and suffocating anyway

It definitely does not sound like shit x)
The mix could probably be better but to be honest, i really enjoy the album as it is.

mix is kinda laughable. whatever songs especially in the second half are immaculate

Well, i'd be happy to listen to a better mix :p
@Shadowmire: how different is the vinyl ?
I find it odd that the vinyl and cd would have a different mix but hey, i guess anything can happen heh.
Also, if anyone knows, how are the FLAC files (as in, are they different from the cd)? Considering getting the album from bandcamp rather than traditional stores.
|

not a different mix, but a different master. loudness war practices don't apply to vinyl records, but if you put the loud CD master on vinyl it just sounds like shit except quieter, so sometimes the vinyl release gets a separate master with much higher dynamic range (as opposed to the artificial difference in dr on a vinyl with the cd master, because it is quiet). more often than not it's the same, though
anyway, it's much different and allows the really dense compositions to breathe and convey more of a sense of atmosphere rather than just sounding like a hammer. it was like candy to me upon first listen

Aah, gotcha. It does sound like it could be worth of a 5 at times so i guess it makes sense that you rated it that if it sounds better on vinyl.
I'll have to try and listen to it sometime. I don't plan on getting the vinyl as i don't even have a player (and don't plan on getting one, at least not until i move out of my current house), sadly.
Thanks for the details ^^

the kick drum at certain parts bothers me in the vinyl master (e.g. chasm of fire outro). still prefer it overall tho

The CD sounds terrible and is a big hinderance in my enjoyment of this. I should check out the vinyl.
|

i can vouch for the superiority of the vinyl mix on this release

they really screwed up the sound quality on the cd version. same thing with everything is fire. ulcerate loves to sabotage their best songwriting with mediocre mixing

just grabbed a vinylrip. The improvement is there, it's much more "engulfing" tbh; will have to give this another go soon.
