It's like the polar opposite style to this album. Half the songs are as good as the ones on this, then there are a few average moments for me.

I don't know how you could 4.5 an album like that

like honestly if i only like half an album it's a 2.5, maybe a 3 or a small 3.5 if the songs are REAALLLY GOOOD

the cynic in me kept trying to find the weak spot here and i couldn't find it on first listen

ALA - I haven't 4.5'd 'Age of Adz' :/

This album has no weak points, the only thing that stops it being a 5 is that its uniformity in approach makes it a very specific sort of listen for a certain mood

Of course you could also argue that it is the perfection of that very mood and hence deserves a 5 because of that

I can see both sides of that argument. This is the perfection of that atmosphere, but at the same time it is consumed by it as a result. I still wouldn't change a thing about it though.

Like I said it is really, really close to that 5 but there's something stopping it being that sort of album you listen to multiple times the same day and play to death.

Quality wise I've always argued that .5 gap between a 4.5 and 5 is pretty much irrelevant - it's more about bumping something to being a 'classic', which is reserved for albums I absolutely love. This almost has it though.

Agreed, it's not quite there.

There's very few albums listen to several times a day anyway though, unless it's brand new and I'm super pumped about it.

Like when this came out, I must have played in 7-8 times in the first two days.

This is the same sort of 4.5 as 'Pink Moon' by Nick Drake for me, similar uniformity, similar stripped down approach, similarly depressive.

If I get to 5000 ratings I'm 99% sure they'll both get bumped to 'classic' status

Pink Moon is great. Won't lie. I've never felt the urge to check out any of his other stuff... am I missing out?
