It's called compression, a by product of brickwalling. Literally everything is the same volume but because of the loud dynamics and the fact that the bass and guitar riffs are played on their lower strings it's hard as hell to properly decipher them

idk just surprised me that a long time reviewer like yourself hadn't heard all metallicas stuff. I usually check out a bands full discog pretty quick if i like a few of their albums. Anyway who gives a shit this is a class album and so is puppets if you somehow haven't listened to that yet.
