The first 2/3 minutes is one of the album highlights along with the clean outro

The quiet bits are definitely good, and even the heavy parts are enjoyable, it just drags a minute too long

Oh, didn't understand that. Dirge is way different, the vocals are very smooth and low and the song doesn't typically start at this point. It's more like an a capella part that is a bit accompanied by music. The same goes with The Lotus Eater (where he is actually humming)

Yeah just like drapery but both are still 5/5 songs. The heavy section in dirge before the growling reminds me of the drapery intro/outro in that they like transcend label/genre

I quite like the backing guitar before the growls. The intro followed by the blast beats on The Lotus Eater are far more powerful

The lotus eater is such a wonderful clusterfuck of a song

It's kinda bouncy... And catchy too! Headbanging would be kinda hard with that song though. Must be pretty weird for the live fans. Don't think they know what to do

That also kinda loses steam at the end why is it with this band their outros are either painfully underwhelming or amazing there's no middle ground

No way, the ending is epic! So creepy and distant and the ahhhhhhhhh's sound like the ones from Hessian Peel

It's simple and heavy for like a minute then there's another minute of whispering. Kinda underwhelming after all the creativity in the first 5 or 6 minutes

Lotus eater has the same problem as burden, a bunch of bullshit at the end that I always just skip when listening

It's not bad though, like HeirApparents repetitive ending that doesn't really do much. I quite like the whispering and the mellotron in the background. Kinda creepy
