Do any of you also feel this one is a little overlooked around here?

100% underserved too, it's soooo good. Maybe pre-Nothing or pre-C33 Meshuggah in general is a bit underappreciated even? Although DEI is an exception. Hmmmm, complex.

to me, Nothing is the album where they defined the Meshuggah sound and is basically the type of music they continue to play to this day, so it makes sense that this is sort of overlooked as a transitional album between that and the earlier DEI style.

of course, I still love it

This album goes the hardest of all shugs and for that it deserves to be in the upper echelon of all shug rankings

It's a dark horse candidate for best Meshuggah in my opinion. It suffers from being a grower sort of album so you have to put in the work to really get in there and appreciate it. But it has some of the angriest and thrashiest songs in the discography. New Millennium Cyanide Christ was the very first Meshuggah song I ever heard. Was completely blown away as a teenager because I hadn't heard this type of metal music before. But it took me a whiiiiile to get on the Meshuggah train because it was such a radical departure from what I had been used to so my baby ears needed time to adjust.

It used to be not overlooked but that’s a time and distance of time issue, and idk about it being a grower since it’s the most immediate of their discog
