The riffs on this album are so wonderfully sinister and demented, truly an otherworldly experience listening to this. Every member of the band is absolutely firing on all cylinders here. Frank's delivery is absolutely insane and totally clear and intelligible; Terrance delivers some absolutely legendary evil riffs; Doug Cerrito and Chris Richards, although performing from the metaphorical "back seat" absolutely slay and lay the foundation for one of the greatest dm albums of all time...and y'all know Mike Smith is mah boi but Doug Bohn ain't no fuckin slouch on the kit either. Dm production is hardly ever this good...maybe never. Totally, completely reasonable for someone to pick this as the best dm album of all time
Effigy has a special aura about it that I'm drawn to...and part of it has to be nostalgia, since it was one of the very first dm albums I ever listened to. I loved it instantly and never looked back. But from a "technical" standpoint, if there is one to be found that is objective, this is probably even better.

yeah I’ll always love effigy because it was the blueprint and it obviously destroys front to back but the performances and compositions on this one are otherworldly. no one has ever phrased riffs like Hobbes and Cerrito did on this album and as much as I love Mike smith, Doug bohn’s drumming here is the most creative drumming suffo ever had. Franks vocals are more dynamic and his delivery is so fucking catchy and fun. plus this is probably the best morrisound production job.
just an unmatched album. genuinely 1 of 1.
