I think this album is overrated and even I know it's still great.

"I've met a few lads from the northern european countries who adore these guys and then violently shit on volbeat"

What an inexplicable position to hold. How could they? So mysterious.

I used to absolutely fucking love Volbeat back when they were an actual metal band. Their first 4 albums all slay. Everything since then has been progressively worse. Their latest is an absolute embarrassment.

I gave them a shot but I just couldn't get over the vocalist sounding like Chad Kroeger fronting a Metallica tribute/parody band.

Allegedly it's good to drink beer and sing along to. People seem to like that.

I kinda agree, but disagree that itโ€™s half filler. A few meh songs, a few great songs and half of it are technically great songs that are extremely played out and I never want to hear again.

After all these years of listening back & forth to that intro of Paradise City, there's one thing I've noticed. I'm 100% sure the second time Slash plays that sequence (when the snare drum kicks in), he plays the F chord (standard tuning) slightly different. Maybe he's not arpeggiating, but playing the full chords, I'm not entirely sure. But if you listen very closely, you will notice a difference to the sound. Maybe Slash messed it up a little bit, who knows, all sorts of mishaps could happen when you play in the studio.

There's lots of things like that on the record. Like how Slash and Izzy aren't even playing the same riffs and even play their own riffs with tons of variations and little bits of improv.

They always contemplate each other really well. F.E., they play the same riff at a different register to make a fuller sound, they use licks that are totally different but when played together, they mean something, and yes, they like to throw various improvisation licks into the base riff to create contrast. One of the best guitar partnerships in all of rock music.

Biased review... GNR is a painfully overrated band but Appetite for Destruction is a terrific album that has stood the test of time... It is precisely why GNR is so overrated because it's the one great album they ever put out.

Someone please do justice and write a new review.
